MIWAX

1946年の創業当初から文具事務用品を中心に原材料の加工から仕上げまで、一貫して国内工場にて製造してきました。
特にデスクマットとカッティングマットは、自社製品だけでなく他社メーカーとのOEM製品も多数手がけており長年に渡り実績とノウハウを蓄積してきました。
「Miwax The Cuttingmat」はその経験を生かし、単なる事務用品にはとどまらない、新たな価値を提案するカッティングマットとして「グッドデザイン賞ベスト100」を受賞。
近年は他社にはないバリエーションやギミックを搭載したデスクマットなどを開発。机上用品全般の商品展開を強化している。
また、マルチクリエーターとして活躍するハイロック氏やアパレルブランドHUMAN MADE?など業界業種を飛び越えたコラボレーションも積極的に行っている。

Since its founding in 1946, MIWAX has been manufacturing office supplies, from raw material processing to finishing, entirely at its domestic factories.
In particular, the company has accumulated a long track record and expertise in desk mats and cutting mats, producing not only its own products but also numerous OEM products for other manufacturers.
‘Miwax The Cuttingmat’ leverages this experience to propose a cutting mat that goes beyond mere office supplies, offering new value, and has won the ‘Good Design Award Best 100.’
In recent years, we have developed desk mats with unique variations and features not found in other companies’ products, strengthening our product lineup across all desk accessories.
Additionally, the company actively collaborates across industries and sectors, working with multi-creator Hyrock and apparel brand HUMAN MADE?, among others.

カッティングマットは多くのクリエイターに愛用されています。仕事でハードに使用するプロユースに加え、近年の世界的なD.I.Yムーブメントの流れに乗り、趣味でモノづくりを楽しむ人達にまで、ユーザーの幅、使用されるシーンは拡がりを見せています。
しかしそれ自体は従来通りの事務用品のイメージが強く、モノづくりをする人達＝モノに対するこだわりが強い人達を満足させられる商品があまりないというのが現状です。
そこで確かな機能性はもちろんのこと、クリエイターがこだわる空間にも違和感なくなじむ審美性を併せ持った、長年に渡って愛されるデザインを目指し開発にあたりました。
主張が強かった細かな方眼罫や付随するサイズ表記などをやめ、小さなドットに置き換えました。
1cm間隔で配置し（5cm間隔では線状のドット）コントラストを抑えたグレーでプリントしました。
また、現在多く使用されているデスクに合わせて、角の形状（角R）を従来よりもなるべく小さくしました。
A3サイズ以下はR1（半径1ｍｍ）、A2サイズ以上はR3（半径3ｍｍ）です。
カラーに関しては、空間との調和を考えモノトーンで統一しています。
カット作業など使用時以外は仕舞われがちなカッティングマットを、常に机上で敷いておいて頂ける存在に。

Cutting mats are widely used by many creators. While they are primarily used by professionals for demanding work, they have also gained popularity among hobbyists enjoying DIY projects, expanding their user base and usage scenarios in line with the global DIY movement.
However, cutting mats have traditionally been perceived as ordinary office supplies, and there are few products that truly satisfy the strong aesthetic sensibilities of creators who are passionate about their craft.
Therefore, we developed this product with the aim of creating a design that would be loved for years to come, combining reliable functionality with aesthetic appeal that seamlessly blends into the spaces where creators work.
We eliminated the bold grid lines and accompanying size markings, replacing them with small dots.
These dots are spaced 1cm apart (5cm apart for linear dots) and printed in a low-contrast grey.
Additionally, to accommodate the desks commonly used today, we minimised the corner radius (R) compared to previous designs.
For sizes A3 and below, the radius is R1 (1mm), and for sizes A2 and above, it is R3 (3mm).
Regarding colour, we unified the design in monochrome to harmonise with the surrounding space.
We aimed to create a cutting mat that can be left on the desk at all times, rather than being stored away when not in use for cutting tasks.

and a clean design that does not interfere with creativity, fully supporting professionals in various fields.
